My weight loss seems to be slow but steady. That's pretty miraculous considering I'm not dieting. It's so interesting that for so many years dieting was the only solution for me. All the diets I've been on have taught me well how to eat healthy. I know that I should be eating a diet rich in lean protein, whole grains, lots of fruits and vegetables and only healthy fats. The key then to losing weight eating this way is through portion control.

I've developed a few habits in the last few years which have really helped me control portion sizes, especially when I eat out. I have learned to ask for a to go box when my food is first delivered to the table. That way I can reduce the portion sizes right away and remove the food I should be saving for another meal. Then, no matter how tasty the food is I'm not tempted to keep eating and stuffing myself.

Another good tactic is to share the meal with my husband. If we each only eat half a meal we both have the opportunity to eat less. This works especially well for me if my husband wants desert. He and I have an agreement that I can have a bite or 2 of what he orders and I'm usually totally satisfied with that. I don't feel as if I am denying myself the yummy desert but do feel that I'm in total control of what and how much I eat. It also helps that, knowing how much my husband loves desert I want him to have the bulk of it because I love him.
